2/13/12 Takedown Wrestling Media Dual Impact Index

2/13/12 Takedown Wrestling Media Dual Impact Index

Postby SetonHallPirate » Mon Feb 13, 2012 8:49 pm

Here's a guideline to what the numbers all mean:

Individual Rankings: The basic idea is an iterative one. Begin with all wrestlers set to an even rating -- 100 in this case. Then, for each match wrestled, give each wrestler the value of their opponent's rating plus or minus a factor for winning or losing the match -- 30 by decision, 40 by major/tech-four, 50 by tech-five, 60 by fall. Total all of a wrestler's results, divide by the number of matches wrestled, and that's the end of a cycle. Then use those numbers as the start of the next cycle until you get the same results for each wrestler for two consecutive cycles.

Note: Wrestlers will not be listed unless either (a) they have competed in 4 team-scoring dates of competition if the team's entire schedule includes 13 or fewer such dates, 5 team-scoring dates of competition if the team's entire schedule includes 14 or more such dates, or (b) they have wrestled ten matches against wrestlers qualifying under (a). If the wrestler qualified under (b), they will be listed, but not ranked, if they have yet to compete attached in any team-scoring dates of competition.

Dual-Result Rankings: Based on results of dual meets only. The ranking is very similar to the Individual ranking, except that the factor is 30 points plus one point for each match the dual was won or lost by. Criteria point for otherwise-tied duals is not included in this figure.
Tournament: Done based on the individual rankings, on a 21-17-14.5-13.5-11-10-7.5-6.5-3-3-3-3-2.5-2.5-2.5-2.5-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 basis, to simulate non-bonus scoring at NCAA's.

Dual-Component Rankings: Based on the Individual Ranking numbers, each team is compared side-by-side with each other team. Teams are given three points for their wrestler being ahead of another team's wrestler, plus one additional point for being 40, 50, and 60 points ahead, to signify major decisions, technical falls, and falls. Teams are scored based on the numbers of such comparisons won, with ties broken by head-to-head comparisons, and then by, if the teams are tied, dual-advancement tiebreak criteria.

I apologize for the delay in everything. Basically, figure everything will be released tomorrow except for the Dual-Results ranking, which will be released in about one minute.
