I am pretty sure he had to weigh in to get in the bracket.

I am guessing it is a - his team put him up to it if they won the championship sort of thing. Especially since Varner is at heavy to avoid having to wrestle his coach.

I can't help but get excited but Cael is not going to try and make the world team right? Supposedly he can still beat Varner so he probably could make the team at 211.

You seriously think that Varner cares if he goes 120 at Brockport? I'm sure he won't have any trouble qualifying for WTT at Nationals or Brockport. He is probably going to just get some matches in.

Of course I don't think he would do any of that. But I have to be honest I thought it was a big joke when I saw the post-didn't you? Maybe he will get back in shape and go 185- in our dreams. He is only 30 and could have one more run in him:-)

He is in the finals after winning his first match 8-0, 6-0 and his second 7-0, 6-0.

Cael won 6-0 6-0 in the finals. Stieber beat Fanthorpe in the finals at 60kg 3-1 2-0.

I thought it was a joke too (it's been done before) until he was in the bracket. That meant he weighed in. At that point I figured his team put him up to it (they did). He did pretty well.

one i believe if cael made a run he would cut to 185. two, i don't think there is a wrestling fan in this country that doesn't believe cael is a much stronger medal contender than varner at 211.

looking for someone who was there: were any of the current psu wrestlers in attendance? i would think that if he was truly repaying the debt to the team for winning big tens team members would be there to watch. maybe it was just for fun as he claims, but i am a little skeptical.

How is this remotely surprising? I would have been much more surprised if Sigman and Varner had won those matches. Cael Sanderson isn't a random college coach and we all know that he retired from competition well before his freestyle prime.
